While her main role for the past several years has been that of "Tom Cruise's wife" and "Suri's mom," Katie Holmes is about to take on what could be an important and career-boosting role for her. While Holmes has oftentimes been considered a marginal actress, at best, she has been chosen to play former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in "The Kennedys", a forthcoming, eight-hour mini-series that will premiere on The History Channel in 2011. Access Hollywood broke the news.

The television mini-series highlights President Kennedy’s life and the events that put an incredible hardship on his family and on the nation. Greg Kinnear is slated to play President Kennedy in this new television drama. It will be the first scripted series that will air on the History Channel.
