The Hollywood Archive Frank SinatraRecession hits hard at the Rat Pack's earliest stomping grounds. During the sixties the Cal Neva Casino was the trendy place to be seen with many film stars and celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr, making it their number one gambling destination outside of the famous Las Vegas strip. In fact Sinatra was once part owner of the Lake Tahoe hot spot.

On Wednesday, roulette wheels will stop spinning and blackjack games will cease at Sinatra's old resort that straddles the Nevada-California border on Lake Tahoe's north shore at Crystal Bay. They may open again by year's end under a new Nevada-based gaming operator but some analysts think the Cal Neva might have dealt its last hand as Tahoe casinos are particularly vulnerable to the double-whammy of the recession and competition from Las Vegas and Indian casinos.
